*New Members join for the 2023 membership year, i.e. January to December 2023 and will receive all back issues of the WAAC Newsletter for 2023.
Lunches Monday and Tuesday
The Museum is closed Monday and Tuesday and offsite dining is limited. It is strongly recommended that you pre-purchase boxed lunches for both days. The box lunches will be served in the MFAH cafe with the option to eat in the sculpture garden. Email if you have further dietary restrictions.

Events on Sunday, 5 November 2023:

Visionary Art Tour: 11:00 - 5:30
A guided tour focusing on perhaps the city’s most unique treasure - the work of self-taught artists and visionary art environments. Ranging from the Orange Show (a hand built amusement park dedicated to the power of a vitamin C) to the self-explanatory Beer Can House, the tour will also include a private collection dedicated to Houston’s world-famous Art Car phenomena as well as a very new, very eye-opening metallic wonderland. Sculptor and longtime Art Car artist Mark David Bradford - “Scrapdaddy” to all - has recently opened a multi-acre landscaped sculpture park dedicated to his legendary critters and creations, and our tour will be among the first to make the pilgrimage to Houston’s newest art gem. The bus tour will be lead by Larry Harris.

Community Outreach Project: NASA Space Center, Houston - SKYLAB 8:30 - 4:00
WAAC will partner with Space Center Houston staff to do a condition survey of Skylab Training Module storage compartment contents of experiments, food, medical supplies and general supplies necessary for living in space for long periods of time. Selected participants will be notified by email.

Jan Burandt will lead tours of the Menil Drawing Institute, study room and paper conservation studio. The tour will include a walkthrough with Assistant Curator Kelly Montana of her exhibition: Hanne Darboven: Writing Time.

Post-Meeting Workshop: Watercolor Materials and Techniques 9:30 - 1:00 and 2:00 - 4:00
Watercolor Art Society: Menil Drawing Institute, Janie C. Lee Drawing Room
This hands-on experience aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the tools, materials, papers, and a diverse range of techniques commonly used in watercolors. After the morning session and a lunch break, the Menil Drawing Institute’s Janie C. Lee Drawing Room will be open for a close examination and discussion of a selection of watercolor drawings from the Menil Collection.

Post-Meeting Workshop: Geneology Workshop 10:00 - Noon
Family History Research Center at the Clayton Library Campus (8-minute walk from Hotel ZaZa)
Melissa Hayes, Assistant Branch Manager will present a workshop designed to build a foundation for genealogy research.
The library is open until 7pm for continued research and consultation.
